On the Top 10 for short break holidays in Europe, the Polish city of Cracow continues to entertain and seduce its visitors from abroad. This former Polish capital city encloses the old historic city and market square where most tourists congregate. There is a permanent outdoor flower market in the architecturally beautiful square and indoor shops in the medieval Cloth Hall that sell Polish handicrafts. In the second week of December, a Christmas Market is set up in the Old Square, lots of covered stalls selling gaily coloured festive products including the world famous hand blown and painted glass Christmas baubles. Each of these Christmas ornaments is a work of art, something to be purchased and treasured because it is unique. There are also stalls selling Polish cakes, biscuits, hot meals and warmed mulled wine. The weather in December is decidedly chilly and warm food and drink is most welcome after browsing the stalls. Various Polish artisans demonstrate their skill and wares offering an insight into Polish art and culture. This is an exceptional Christmas Market, an experience not to be missed.
